The basics

How it works

What is a municipal election?
It chooses the people who run the City of Windsor: one mayor and 10 ward councillors. Together they form city council.
What is a ward?
Windsor is divided into 10 areas called wards. Each ward elects one councillor. Your address decides your ward.
What does council decide?
Things like the yearly city budget, property tax rates, local bylaws, roads, parks and planning rules. Some areas, like housing and transit funding, also depend on the province and federal government.
How many votes do I get?
In this guide's races: one for mayor and one for your ward councillor. You may also vote for a school board trustee.
Does Hypervote tell me who to vote for?
No. We explain choices and link to sources. You decide.
